Alderman / Councillor/Local government minister with responsibility for planning and the environment Explanation: There is easy no satisfactory translation for assessore, simply because there is no equivalent in the UK or the US. Assessore is a *political appointment* (not a permanent job) to the executive of a local authority, just like a central government minister. They are often also elected councillors, but don't have to be. They are appointed when elections are won. The nearest in the UK would be the chairperson of the planning committee where planning is town and country planning. This is basically the local government equivalent of the Minister of the Environment. Every Italian 'comune' has its 'giunta' (executive government) composed of assessori (call what you think best in English according to the context - last one I did for a very famous person - I made sound as important as possible ;-) or leave it in Italian and paste in this note as a footnote). |
