Page 291 shows a map called Distribuzione delle magioni templari alla fine del tredicesimo secolo, where some of the estates listed are "commanderies" (same word in English, see below), headed by commanders, others being "preceptories", run by preceptors.

My first choice was \"Commanderie\". However, I realised that some of the \"magioni\" featured in Barber\'s map are Preceptories (Sandford for instance).
At the end of the XIII centruy, Italy housed \"magioni\" in the following locations: Fuste, Paleopolis, Lamia, Siracusa, Messina, Taranto, Brindisi, Bari, Troia, Penne, Vanna, Perugia, Siena, Lucca,(Albenga). If your description matches one of the above, try to see whether it was a Commanderie or a Preceptory.
