I've done some research and have a new suggestion

*Plateau consisting of bedrock with multiple facies*

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&oi=defmore&defl=en&q=...

this is a very technical interpretation of *sfaccettato*
but I'm not really sure it applies here (no useful googles for altopiano + sfaccettato/a/i/e)

other possibilities for *sfaccettato* (with _very_ different meanings):

dissected
fragmented
broken

...........
