Italian term or phrase: si invagina nel derma
This is describing the role and function of keratinocytes and the formation of an epidermal plate. Section is describing hair morphogenesis in this introduction to a hair loss prevention treatment. I do not know the best English verb to use here.

Context:

"... broblaste;quest’ultime si organizzano ed inviano un segnale di ritorno ai cheratinociti.
Quest’attività provoca la formazione di una placca epidermica

1) la quale si invagina nel derma per formare il primo germoglio a carattere
pilifero

grow downwards into the dermis
Explanation:
Grow/project/extend downwards into the dermis

These cells grow both upwards to form the opening of the hair canal and downwards into the dermis to form the dermal papillae of the hair follicle.

In early fetal life an invagination develops from the primitive ectoderm (developing epidermis) and grows downwards into the dermis to form the hair shaft

Specialized epidermis cells that extend downwards into the dermis produce hair and nails, which are also composed of dead cells.

invaginates in the dermis

Explanation:
your text is looking real technical, so might as well use the technical terms in English, although (not being a medical translator) I have never seen the word invaginate in my life. However, if you search invaginate and hair there are many technical texts that use these terms

Again, not my area, but from what I can see the technical terms fit.

inpouching into the dermis

Explanation:
"Invaginate" or "invagination" is the technical term, but may not be understood by a lay audience. A more general term is "inpouching". I have a feeling, though, that the verb – cells or a plaque "pouching in" – is not really common, hence, you might have to reconstruct your sentence if you wish to use this option.
