Italian term or phrase: avvicinare
Hope I've classified the question in the most appropriate way. I'm translating brief instructions for using a high-tech toilet (!) with a proximity card first to select the toilet, then to open the door. The two commands which are causing me problems are:
- Avvicinare la tessera per selezionare la toilette
- Avvicinare la tessera per aprire la porta
The problem is that there is no information on what the card should be placed near to, and I can't think how to translate "avvicinare" in English without an object. Can anyone help? Thanks, Sarah.

hold the card close to the reader
Explanation:
I'm pretty sure these cards only have a range of a few cms so there will have to be an obvious reader device of some kind rather than just moving the card close to a door

I've decided to invent the reader, leaving a comment for the client in case for some strange reason, there is actually no reader! With thanks to everyone, have to close now as I'll be out of internet contact for a couple of days.
