Italian term or phrase: dispersione terra
The technical part of a manual talks about an electrical board that gives 'Sicura interruzione ............anche in caso di scatto differenziale per guasto di dispersione terra'

I am forced by a standardised glossary to translate 'dispersion' as 'leakage'.

I've got as far as '.....even in the case of an increase in the differential due to a fault in the earth leakage'. I'm no master of physics but conceptually I have problems with there being a fault in a leakage. Do they mean to say 'a leakage in the earth current' or 'a fault in the earth current breaker'? Or is it being forced to use 'leakage' that is causing the problem here?

Notes to answerer
Asker: so - as per the link you quote: 'eliminating ....... ground leakage current' - as I thought, the leakage is a problem. Can't see how the leakage can have a fault, then, as the source text suggests. Am I splitting hairs here? Am opting for 'ground leakage fault' which I'm still not convinced about.
