most significant bit (msb) and least significant bit (lsb) Explanation: I've never seen these terms in Italian (pesante/leggero), but when a number is expressed in bits, the bit with the highest value is on the left and is the first and "most significant bit" and the bit furtherst to the right is the last bit, the "least significant bit".
