sì, che lo è, se è solo linguistico. Quello che cambia tutto è la parola 'culturale'. Here we have an interpreter/cultural mediator (or whatever the right term is)

La frase è contenuto in un opuscolo per una scuola.

"Il lavoro di prima accoglienza dell'alunno straniero, che comprende anche l'insegnamento della lingua italiana, si traduce nella figura del mediatore linguistico e culturale."
Quindi il mediatore linguistico non è un semplice traduttore.

a misleading phrase. This could normally be translated with translator/interpreter. The degree course I teach on is called 'Teoria e tecnica della mediazione linguistica' simply because we are not allowed to call it a degree 'per traduttori ed interpreti

New hyped up name for interpreters and translator. Since. the US and UK doesn't seem to have a new hyped up name for them I suggest you use the old terms maybe with a literal translation "linguistic mediator" and "(interpreter/translator)" put in brackets immediately afterwards.
