In a manual for hair colourists:
Per *altezze di tono* si intende l’ indicazione riguardante la differenza di chiaro-scuro dei capelli senza l’indicazione dei riflessi; l’altezza di tono va dal naro fino al platino. Nel colore naturale del capello essa viene determinata dai pigmenti melaninici.

I assume tono is "tone" but am confused about the "altezza". Could it be "value"? Or "height"? thanks in advance...
