L'espressione ha oroginariamente valore specifico, ovvero "aspettati una risposta nel tempo minimo che serve per fare sì che io ti risponda e la mia risposta ti arrivi".
E però utilizzata (e mi pare questo il caso) anche completamente fuori contesto postale:
"A stretto giro di posta la risposta del ministro della difesa israeliano, il laburista Elud Barak, secondo cui Israele rispetta l'appello del segretario Onu"

Ma nessuno spedisce delle lettere - è un botta e riposta attraverso i quotidiani.

qui trovi addirittura un gioco di parole sull'espressione:
"Non si è parlato ancora di tempistiche sebbene l'azienda fondata da Page e Brin si stia adoperando per provvedere "a stretto giro di posta", è proprio il caso di dirlo."
Perchè in realtà l'espressione viene usata solo per indicare SUBITO, ma in questo caso si parla di un probelma con la sicurezza della posta elettornica - da qui il gioco di parole

E ancora, a volte, anche fuori dal contesto "domanda/risposta", "asserzione/replica", "probelma/soluzione", cioè solo per indicare "quanto prima":

Se poi tutte le espressioni "postali" dei colleghi, mantengono il senso figurato anche in inglese, allora vanno benissimo (ecco il motivo della bassa confidence - la mia soluzione è BANALE, probabilmetne ce ne sono di migliori) - ma quello che stiamo dicendo è il classico "ASAP"
