would some kind soul be so kind as to unravel the syntactical mysteries of this term for me? dealing with an environmental satellite.

"un radar a bordo di un satellite emette impulsi di radiazione luminosa nella lunghezza d’onda delle microonde, raccogliendone poi il riflesso della superficie della Terra".

i put "electromagnetic radiation pulses in the microwave wavelength", because, according to english-speaking physiicists at least, microwave doesn't in fact come into the light spectrum. silvia's excellent research actualy provided the answer (third from bottom).

pulses of radiation gets lots of hits:

and radiazione luminosa is 'light radiation', I think, so, presumably...But, I feel I should come clean and admit that I am not an astrophysicist, so I may be light years off the mark...
