embossed Explanation: non ho trovato riscontri per il lavorato a giorno; per intuizione credo che si tratti di lavoro a sbalzo (in rilievo) dove, sotto la luce, le figure risultano più chiare (a giorno) in contrapposizione alle figure scalpellate che, risultando in secondo piano, riportano l'ombra e quindi sono più scure. questa è solo una supposizione. ;) ciao |

a jour Explanation: I'm not sure either, but taking a big sideways step from sewing, where "a jour" is the translation for "a giorno" work (a type of stitch)... I found a reference that could be of use - see a message from 08-01-2002, towards the bottom of the file. It refers to "Interesting Book on Medieval Metalwork and Enamelling Techniques". Good luck! openwork Explanation: "Lavorazione a giorno" è un termine generico per indicare le decorazioni a traforo, ovvero "openwork" in inglese (vedi le due placche illustrate nel primo sito sotto per capire la differenza).
