A Be. a Büntetőeljárási Törvénykönyv, amit én Penal Code-ként fordítottam, a számozást pedig hagytam az eredetiben. Ezzel nagyon mellélövök?

Amerikai ügyfélnek készül a fordítás.

Számos angol fordítás létezik a "BE" címére és valóban gyakori a "Criminal Procedure Code" megoldás. Mivel azonban kifejezetten amerikai felhasználásra készül a munkád, én azt javasolnám, hogy inkább az amerikai törvényhozási gyakorlatot vedd alapul. Ehhez az alábbi hivatkozások segítségedre lehetnek.
Az USA törvénykezésében léteznek törvénykönyvek = Codes. Ezeken belül vannak törvények = Laws (néhol Act névvel is illetik ezeket). A büntető eljárásról szóló törvény US angolul: Criminal Procedure Law (avagy Law on Criminal Procedure). Egy példa:

A törvény szakaszai a következők:
Part - Title - Article - Section - Paragraph - Subsection.
Eddigi munkáim során a megrendelőim mindig ragaszkodtak minden szakasz megnevezéséhez, így pl. javítanom kellett, amikor véletlenül lazán ezt írtam egyszer a magyar 48.§(1) fordításaként: Article 48 (1) - jav.: Article 48, Section (1), ahol az Article a magyar törvényben § jelként jelenik meg.

Közelebbről a magyar "BE" = a magyar Törvény - azaz Law - a Büntetőeljárásról (on criminal procedure), egész pontosan: "1998. évi XIX. törvény a büntetőeljárásról"

Nem törvénykönyv (code), hanem törvény (law). Ugyancsak nem tévesztendő össze a BTK-val, ami a magyar Büntető Törvénykönyv (angolul Criminal Code), pontos magyar címe: "1978. évi IV. törvény a Büntető Törvénykönyvről". Sem a BE, sem a BTK nem "Penal Code" US angolul.

Az USA-ban a büntetőeljárásról szóló törvény egy törvénykönyv (USC : Title 18 - Crimes and Criminal Procedure") részét képezi:

Explanation:
According to European Parliament prescriptions this is the correct version, although there is no prescription for the name (szerintem mindegy). Article (capital A), hard space, then all the numbers without spaces next to each other.

A szóbanforgó törvényre magyarul kétféleképpen szoktak hivatkozni:
1. "Büntetőeljárási törvénykönyv"
2. "az 1998. évi XIX. törvény a büntetőeljárásról"
A második a hivatalosabb, a pontos év és szám megjelölésével, de ha jól látom, akkor a kérdezett szövegben nem ez a verzió szerepel, hanem az első.
A két változat angolul is kétféleképpen fordítandó, de érdekes módon a létező fordítások nem egységesek.

neutral  Ildiko Santana: Bár a hivatkozások létező fordításokból származnak, véleményem szerint az amerikai ügyfelet kevéssé fogja érdekelni, hogy Európában milyen terminológiát használnak a magyar fordítók. Célszerűbb lenne a bevett amerikai szóhasználatnak megfelelő fordítás.
