"Purifier Waste (also known as box waste) is a solid MGP waste which was produced during purification of the manufactured gas. It is typically found as a dark mixture of wood chips with a very strong, unpleasant burnt odor. Once exposed at the ground surface, the waste will often develop an iridescent blue color known as Prussian Blue. Pieces of solidified tar may be mixed in with the waste, but it is unusual to find liquid tar. Some purifier waste is made of lime instead of wood chips; however, this material has not been commonly found at New York State MGP sites."

neutral  Ildiko Santana: A linkelt szövegben egyszer szerepel "...gas ...mass...", itt: "A successful passive gas mass-transfer device" - ahol "mass-transfer device" a gáz nagy mennyiségben való átvitelére alkalmas eszközre utal, és semmi köze a kérdezett kifejezéshez.

A helyes válasz: purifier waste.

A Magyar Európa Egyesület cikkéből: "Fű lesz a gázmassza helyén"

"A gáztisztító massza a kőszén elgázosításával, az úgynevezett városi gáz előállítása során keletkezett. A gázba különféle korróziós tulajdonságú anyagok kerültek, amelyeket ki kellett vonni, különben a gáz megtámadta volna a berendezéseket. A gáz tisztítására, kéntelenítésére szűrőberendezéseket használtak.

[3] This listing includes wastes in the form of ash, residue, slag, dross, skimming, scaling, dust, powder, sludge and cake..."

"Particulate Removal
A cyclone and a ceramic candle filter in series are used to remove any particulate material exiting the secondary gasification zone. This material, char and fly ash, is recycled back to the gasifier. The filter is comprised of an array of ceramic candle elements in a pressure vessel. The filter is cleaned by periodically back pulsing it with fuel gas to remove the fines material. Raw gas exits the candle filter at 665ºF and 455 psia. Below 1,000°F, a large portion of the alkali and volatile metals will condense on particulates and will be captured by the filter element itself."

http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/24922.html

"What is Purifier Waste?

Following cooling, a number of other impurities had to be removed from the gas before it was used. Sulfur and cyanide compounds were removed by passing the gas through "purifier beds" made up of either lime or wood chips impregnated with iron filings. Chemical reactions would take place between the gas and the purifier material, removing impurities which otherwise would corrode the gas piping, stoves, and lighting fixtures where the gas was burned.

Although the beds of purifier material were recycled, they would eventually load up with tar and other materials and become unusable. At this point, the material would become a waste material requiring disposal. This purifier waste (also referred to as "box waste") required special handling: it had a very strong odor, and the wood chip mixtures had a tendency to spontaneously ignite if left uncovered on the ground surface. Most MGPs either shipped their purifier waste off site to landfills or used it to fill low-lying areas on site."
