As before, it's an item in a Dome construction bid, this section relates to site development, and the sentence reads:

Understood. Here is חציבה used as quarrying http://www.cbs.gov.il/publications10/1387/pdf/tab07.pdf though I'm not sure if quarrying is the correct construction term. Hewing may be grammatically correct, but it has a sort of Biblical feel, and is not a term commonly used in construction. Is the intention to chop up stone that is present under where the dome goes, and to level it out, leaving a certain depth of stone (gravel)? In that case, might it be "spread and level stone to a depth of"...? http://www.bobshowto.com/Spread-Stone.htm

Trenching is usually digging a trench in which to lay pipe (drain, sewer) or in which to pour a foundation. Probably a phone call to a building contractor might resolve this. Perhaps there is another meaning for חציבה that we are not seeing; or there is also the possibility that חציבה might be a noun in this case?

Asker: Thank you. The only thing is, the text uses חפירה/חציבה in other places. I used excavation for חפירה, that's why I thought of using hewing for חציבה

Asker: The Academy calls both חציבה וחפירה excavation, but also has trenching for חפירה in the context of מונחי בנאות כלליים. Do you think trenching works?
