Verfolgungen und Pluenderungen, Verstuemmelungen und Ermordungen waren an der Tagesordnung. In Europa mehrten sich die kritischen Berichte. Internationale Kommissionen und Gesellschaften, etwa di Congo Reform Association, berichteten ueber die "Kongo-Grauel". Joseph Conrad hat sie in "Herz der Finsternis" verarbeitet.

Chiaramente "Grauel" ha l'Umlaut sulla a, che pero' non posso usare - e me ne scuso - perche' per oscure ragioni otterrei solo un quadratino come questo: �.
