Das vorliegende Werk gehört zusammen mit Bildern im Kunsthaus XYZ zu einer Serie von vier ähnlichen **Fassungen**. Sie alle zeigen die Dents du Midi aus der Gegend zwischen Champéry und dem weiter talabwärts gelegenen Dorf Val d’Illiez.

Explanation:
Carl Albert Loosli, le biographe, raconte que Hodler faisait des calques pour reproduire économiquement des tableaux de paysages. "Quand un paysage l'intéressait tellement qu'il lui paraissait digne de plusieurs versions, il se faisait de toute chose une copie exacte, grâce à laquelle, tous les problèmes de perspective et de forme étaint déjà linéairement résolus. Ce calque était ensuite transféré sur autant de toiles préparées et tendues qu'il voulait faire de tableaux ..."
