German term or phrase: Handhohlsaum / Hohlsaum
"Feinstes Leinen in Creme und Reinweiß wird mit aufwendigem Kreuz-Handhohlsaum kombiniert. "

Reading between the lines of the text, I think what is meant is a cross-stitch at the edge of the table linen, which creates a pattern of holes at the seam edge.

The Leo translation "hem stitching" does not apply in my opinion.

Who can explain and offer an alternative.

TIA.

hand-drawn hemstitching
Explanation:
Hemstitching, although it sounds like just an ordinary hem, is defined in my dictionary and in this site as a particular kind of fine finish. Check also the Google images search for hemstitch.

Definition: To ornament at the head of a broad hem by drawing out a few parallel threads and fastening the cross threads in successive small clusters; as to hemstitch a handkerchief.

In order to include the "Hand-" part, you can use hand-drawn. Believe me, people who spend that much money on their sheets and table linens know what it is.

Finished with a classic hand-drawn hemstitched border.

Explanation:
That's what I understand as 'Hohlsaum' (one example of numerous patterns):

(search 'drawn thread heart')

Hem stitch IMO is a stitch to finalize or fix the Hohlsaum (after having drawn the threads).
