German term or phrase: das Bewusstsein für die Gastgeberrolle stärken
its about a programme of events:

Das Doppeljubiläum soll auch den Bayreuthern das Erbe der Wilhelmine noch näher bringen und DAS BEWUSSTSEIN FÜR DIE GASTGEBERROLLE bei jedem einzelnen Bürger stärken.
--> This is because the double-anniversary is also designed to bring Wilhelmine´s inheritance / legacy even closer to the citizens of Bayreuth and to strengthen the awareness within each citizen for his or her role as hosts???
----> Can you help me, please?

and encourage all local residents to appreciate/revel/take pride in their role as hosts
Explanation:
Not the same word for word, of course - but there's scope for a bit of freedom here.
Talk of "awareness" makes it sound more like an obligation - and I'm sure that's not what the author intends.

Alternatively:
- encourage the whole town ...

p.s. "legacy" - not "inheritance"!

agree  Lancashireman: 'Local residents' is good. Another possibility would be 'the people of'. 'Bayreuth Citizen' sounds grand for the title of a local newspaper but not for the text of an article.

-> Yes, 'citizen' has me thinking of Room 101 etc.

agree  Paul Cohen: A very free translation. Excellent. Your comment on the word "awareness" is spot on, Frank. We certainly don't use the word "citizen" the way Germans use the word "Bürger"!

-> Exactly. I'll never forget the first time I heard "Der nächste Bürger, bitte" at the Bezirksamt (or maybe it was a case of old habits dying hard here in East Berlin?)
