Mitunter *leiden wir an inneren Stimmen*, die sehr viel vernichtender als die Kritik von außen sind - gerade deshalb verletzt Kritik von außen dann ganz besonders, weil sie diese "wunden Punkte" berührt.

To suffer from inner voices? Just "hearing" inner voices would not take into account that the person suffers or am I wrong? Thank you for suggestions.

disagree  Ian M-H (X): It's not "the" standard term in every context and IMO it doesn't work here - whose voices? And why suffer "from"? [Confidence 5??] // Suffering here is caused by what 'voices' say, not their existence. No suggestions from me - excellent answer above ;-)
