deflection protection devices Explanation: Not so sure about this, I found it on a bilingual website, but it was a German one and didn't have anything to do with sailing. Almost all google hits for the German word are on...nuclear power stations! Reference: http://www.ked.de/deutsch/dienst/ke_berech.htm Reference: http://www.ked.de/englisch/dienst/ke_berech.htm |

lashings Explanation: It could mean "tiedowns". IMO "securement devices" is also a safe bet. See: "Self-Study Course in Securing Non-Standardized Cargo - [ Diese Seite übersetzen ] ... by step and provides additional guidance specific to the securing of cargo on flat-racks, particularly with respect to calculation of lashings comprised of half ... www.natcargo.org/sscargo.html - 3k - Im Cache - Ähnliche Seiten " |

angular displacment protection (or: prevention) Explanation: In ships as well as in nuclear power plants, there is a great deal of piping. Perhaps the text refers to the poppint our or angular displacement of pipes under certain conditions (and the prevention thereof or protection therefrom). See this excerpt from a report about safety in nuclear power plants: Wir finden hier das seit langem in der Bundesrepublik praktizierte Konzept der "Basissicherheit" wieder. It is a device constructed around a pipe but not in contact with the pipe. Its function is to prevent damage from 'pipe whip', that is the uncontrolled motion of the ruptured pipe segments after rupture, caused by the dynamic forces of the outflowing fluid. The pipe whip restraint, hence, does not anchor the pipe - that is the function of the anchors and supports. Pipe rupture can either be caused by internal defects (cracks) or external forces, such as seismic loads, that go beyond the design basis of the pipe and its supports. Pipe whip restraints are widely used in nuclear power plants. Improvement of pipe design and in-service inspection has led to the concept of 'basic safety' (German: Basissicherheit, see 'RSK Leitlinien'), which eliminates the need for the restraints for those pipes that meet the requirements. The main disadvantage of the restraints is that they restrict in-service inspection. Pipe whip restraints can be large and costly constructions, depending on the size of the pipe and the possibility to anchor the restraints on nearby rigid walls or structures. Further information can easily be found by using the expression 'pipe whip restraint' in a search machine (Google, other). |
