I had first thought about "emotional response," but now see that I need something with affect-...

And I can't seem to find the word in English that fits with my feel for Färbung in this case. I feel like it's on the tip of my tongue, so to speak - just out of reach.

agree  Lirka: I am just wondering..is there/what is the difference between affect and affective tone?

-> See discussion point: my definition would be that affective tone is more subtle and fleeting than the broader overall affect eg the overall affect in a 1 hour treatment session may be jovial, but periodic alterations in affective tone hint at a mixed mood
