German term or phrase: Fremdladung
This is about a research study on characteristics of OCD.

Einzelne Items wurden aufgrund geringer Trennschärfen, hoher Fremdladungen oder großer Ähnlichkeit mit anderen Items ausgeschlossen.

Everything I find online that is bilingual has to do with cargo, not statistics. I'm stumped!

Thanks in advance.

loading on unexpected factors
Explanation:
An idea - putting two and two together from the following examples

Items that cross loaded, plus those that loaded on unexpected factors as well as those that had factor loadings <0.5 were discarded.

Items that cross-loaded, produced sharp drops in item-to-total correlations, or loaded on unexpected factors were removed from the analysis. (page 10)

Allerdings kommen vereinzelt Fremdladungen vor, d.h. ein Item lädt höher auf einem anderen als dem erwarteten Faktor (Items Inv 1b und 1c, Com 2).

Thanks to all! I don't know whether this is right, but it's in the right direction and the documentation is fairly convincing. I don't want to leave the question open, because I find that eventually "the system" will "choose" whichever entry has the highest peer agreement, which in this case would be wrong. If the editor or author gives me the correct translation, I will try to add it here later.

Explanation:
I think in the context of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) it has to do with this

agree  Rosa Foyle: I think David is right in this context, since it comes after the word "Trennschärfe" (selectivity).

neutral  Teresa Reinhardt: dies bezieht sich wohl eher auf "Items" (d.h., eine statistische Größe) und nicht auf OCD

correlation with other items/variables

Explanation:
If it's to do with statistics, then I guess they mean that they didn't analyse factors that correlated so highly with other factors/variables (items) as to have no influence or correlation of their own with the actual variable/factor they were testing/analysing.

For example, I did a study on whether children or adults can learn foreign language vocabulary more easily/quickly. I wanted to control for general reading ability so I did an extra little assessment of each participant's reading ability and vocabulary in English (their first language). BUT since the test I used turned out to only actualy show differences between 'children' participants, and the adults all basically scored 100%, the reading test scores correlated so highly with 'age' so I didn't actually analyse those scores in my final statistics analysis (because they had a high Fremdladung?!)

However, I'm not sure where the boundary between "Fremdladung" and "Ähnlichkeit mit anderen Items" comes in ... in my example, the factor 'age' obviously had an influence (Fremdladung) on the reading test scores. I guess that 'Ähnlichkeit' would count if I, for example, had done a reading test and a general intelligence test, or something, and both of those 'items' / variables represent roughly the same thing, i.e. a factor which is too similar to make them both worth analysing...
