By contrast, the English term "Suspected Contaminated Site (SCS)" does not necessarily imply the aspect of risk (See also Section 1.-5.0). Except in Germany, Austria and the USA, there is no official definition of the term SCS. However, after having spoken with representatives of all the different countries investigated in this Study, it can generally be assumed that internationally there is general consensus that the term SCS describes an area which - due to past uses or concrete evidence - is suspected to be contaminated, i.e. where hazardous substances may have lead to anthropogenic soil contamination. |
