German term or phrase: thermische Reduzierung
Besonders bevorzugt ist eine Ausführungsform des Verfahrens, bei dem die Temperatur der Härtung mindestens 5°C unterhalb der Temperatur liegt, bei der eine *thermische Reduzierung* der Wirksamkeit des/der Oral-Impfstoffe(s) üblicherweise beginnt.

The one translation I found is *thermal reduction*, but most google hits have to do with thermal reduction of magnisium and graphite.
The other is *thermal decomposition*
Thermal decomposition or thermolysis, is a chemical decomposition caused by heat. The decomposition temperature of a substance is the temperature at which the substance chemically decomposes. (Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_decomposition).
Is that what the author means here?

thermal reduction
Explanation:
...of oral vaccine efficacy. "Thermisch" relates to the phrase "Reduzierung der Wirksamkeit" ; i.e. reduction in efficacy.
So in the preferred embodiment, hardening occurs at 5 degrees below the temperature that results in thermal reduction of oral vaccine efficacy.

Hope that helps,

Stefan
