directly proportional -- inversely proportional Explanation: The definition of a directly proportional relationship is that the quotient remains the same (Quotientengleichheit). Similarly, the definition of an inversely proportional relationship is that the product remains the same (Produktgleichheit). Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportionality_(mathematics) |

proportional / non-proportional Explanation: In Class 7, they look at equal ratios e.g. 2/1 = 6/3 = 10/5. These result in linear graphs through the origin [points being e.g. (1,2) (3,6) (5,10) on line y=2x]. That's then extended to linear graphs that do not go through the origin [points being e.g. (1,3) (3,7) (5, 11) on line y=2x+1]. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 hrs (2012-04-05 12:00:38 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Maybe it depends on the context but the following is a typical extract from a Klasse 7 syllabus and it's definitely talking about linear (and not inverse) functions Inhalte • Zuordnungen • Zuordnungsvorschrift • Zuordnungstabelle • Darstellung im Koordinatensystem • proportionale Zuordnung quotientengleich • antiproportionale Zuordnung produktgleich http://www.friesenschule.eu/arbpl/MA_07.pdf |
