Taken from a quotation for business gas prices. The sentence in question is part of an explanation of the terms used in the price formula, which is:

GeP = n + n * (HEL - n) + n * (L - n)
where "n" represents various numbers that I don't think I should disclose :-)

The sentence is: "Die Preiskomponente L versteht sich als vom Statistischen Bundesamt veröffentlichter Index des tariflichen Stundenlohnes in der Energie- und Wasserversorgung (früheres Bundesgebiet, *Geschlecht zusammen*, Indizierung 2000 = 100)."

Can anyone suggest a translation for this please? TIA

Thank you. I did think that this was what it meant, but I was quite surprised that it was necessary to say this in these times of supposed equality, and maybe was therefore looking for something else that wasn't there...

agree  Richard Benham: Unfortunately, it's nothing as interesting or enjoyable as having "sex together"; more like "les deux sexes confondus", which always sounds like a description of someone with a problem of sexual identity, of of distinguishing male from female....
