This is from a text about building automation, facility management etc.
My dictionaries give me purposefully, specificallly-designed, goal-oriented, etc. for zielgerichtet. I can’t think which of them, if any, would fit best in this context. I’d be very grateful for any ideas and suggestions. Many thanks,

Sheila

Explanation:
comprehensive information is documented and made available as and when required.

Slight workaround - I'm still thinking about whether or not it works!

The reason I have taken so long to grade this is that I like so many of that answers I just couldn't decide! I wish we could divide up the points. Anyway, many thanks to everyone for their help and in particular to Mary as I think her answer best fits my context. Sheila

Explanation:
Ziel means target.

The idea is that it doesn't give any old information, but something that is appropriate.

Explanation:
Thats a direct translation that I think works in the context.

The second suggestion was a throw-back to my army days, where information was made available on a "need basis". The above suggestion (hold on) gets 146.000 hits on Google. Unbelieveable! I have not read them all.
