German term or phrase: ausgerichtet
The text is about the Pope's Swiss Guard. The following is an extract in which the term appears:

Dem neuen Papst Benedikt XVI. wird ein besonders gutes Verhältnis zu den Mitgliedern der „kleinsten und friedlichsten Armee der Welt“ nachgesagt, und Bundesrat und Verteidigungsminister Samuel Schmid lobte die vereidigte Garde als eine dem Wesen nach „eidgenössische“, auf gemeinsame Verantwortung ausgerichtete Institution, ein Vorbild an Pflichtbewusstsein, aber auch Botschafterin der Schweiz.

I cannot figure out the meaning of "ausgerichtete", or to be honest the later part of the sentence.

Many thanks :-).

focused on
Explanation:
"Ausgerichtet" usually means geared towards, but here I'd say "an institution based on shared responsibility" or "an institution focused on shared responsibility" or "an institution with a strong emphasis on shared responsibility."

agree  Daniela Gieseler-Higgs: I think the meaning of the "ausgerichtet" in the German text is not obvious and you have to clarify it like Paul does. I think the last version is spot on.
