This is paraphrasing the opinion of an Indian professor on the potential role of Europe ("wir") regards the abuse of technology:
"Denn nur wir hätten Geld und noch einen Rest von Ethik"
I'm actually thinking we'd talk about "conscience" (in English) in this context (hence the classification), but all (auch ethical) suggestions are welcome!

"a shred of" would work well for "einen Rest von" here - either with the "dignity" that Johanna suggested, or with something like ethical values, conscience or moral sensibility, or principles.

I think "dignity" pertains more to how one is viewed by others, though, whereas Ethik pertains more to one's own behavior. Since the second occurrence mentions an Ethikrat, which would probably be best translated with something including "ethics" in English ("minister of morals" would sound too Orwellian), I'd go with something like "we are the only ones who not only have money, but also still hold onto a shred of our ethical values."

Oh, sorry, Johanna\'s answer was decency, not dignity. Decency is certainly more applicable, though I do wonder about the transition from decency to Ethikrat.

I think, if your author is giving a definition of Ethik, you must choose a more \'philosophical\'word than \'decency\'. \'Ethics\' is an obvious possibility, I still like my \'morality\'. \'Moral values\' etc also ok. You could combine answers and have \'some morality left\'. Pity you can\'t divide the points :-)
