German term or phrase: Behördenwege
The only translation I find of "Behördenwege" is official channels, yet this does not seem to fit the usage of the word, at least not as it is applied here in Austria. For example:

"20 % der Verlustmeldungen wurden via Internet und Serviceline eingebracht, d. h., die Bürger hatten rund 10.000 Behördenwege weniger zu machen."

Behördenwege are very popular here, by the looks of things, but I can't seem to think of any English equivalents. Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!

visits to the authorities
Explanation:
I reckon it's the act of physically visiting the authorities in person that they're referring to here. The number of such visits has decreased thanks to the internet and telephone (service line)

Behördengang, -gänge might be the better word in German

agree  Hans G. Liepert: Behördengang maybe better in German, not in Austrian German, where -weg is found more often

agree  Nancy Arrowsmith: with Hans, it's definitely a -weg in Austria, hasn't changed much. No, it's just a WEG.
