"Die zweite Säule zur Erziehlung höherer Wirtschaftlichkeit ist der optimale Mix zwischen Fahrzeugen im Grundbedarf (angemietet über längere Zeit und zur ständigen Verfügung der *Dienststelle*) und Fahrleistung für Spitzenbedarfe (angemietet tage-, wochen- oder monatsweise). Die *Dienststellen* haben heute in der Regel zuviele Fahrzeuge im Bestand, um ihren Grundbedarf zu decken (untere rote Linie) und zu wenig Fahrzeuge, um Spitzenbedarfe abzufangen."

The standard translations for 'Dienststelle' just don't seem to fit in a military context. I have, however, come across 'service office', but I'd appreciate confirmation or any other solutions. RSVP. ASAP. TIA. ;-)

In the US Army, this would be called "at the unit level" or simply "units." At the unit level means at battalion or company level.

The echelon-level of certain units and command staffs, i.e. REGIMENT, BRIGADE, CORPS, etc., is provided next to the unit's title in brackets with capital letters: e.g. Festungs-Pionier-Dienststelle (BATTALION). This is used where the unit's title designation does itself indicate the exact size.

  -> True. In Rob's text, the Dienststelle is just a unit, but I was trying to explain that Dienststelle is where the action is, i.e., not at headquarters.
