Context is a schedule of a visit by African politicians to various representatives and bodies including
*CDU-Landesgeschäftsstelle*

I think I'd probably drop the "State" under the table - only assuming it is named, and write for example "CDU headquarters in Lower Saxony", or wherever.

Or regional office, if you think the original wording might suggest the CDU's headquarters in Germany is in Lower Saxony...
In the UK, I believe the equivalent term would be "division" (at least it was when I was young, and politically-minded).

Thank you very much. What I shall do is to write Regional Headquarters of the CDU (Thuringia) -throwing in Thuringia for the sake of clarity, which I think is paramount in this case. I take the point about Land as a translation of German "Land" but I can't be sure it will be italicised and if it is not italicised it is confusing. "The Economist" once published an article about VAT on vats of alcohol with VAT in lower case, causing great confusion among non-native speakers! I don't think "The Economist", with its rather economical regard for grammatical precision, should be regarded as a model or precedent for any aspect of English syntax, grammar or usage.

Land office of the CDU


Explanation:
As the offices represent a vector of political participation required by the Grundgesetz, I'd preface the official "Land" designation to the "office". The Economist for one regularly uses "Land" to designate the German Länder. Regards.

Local party headquarters


Explanation:
I feel in this context it has to be "local party headquarters" to differentiate between what is a political party's office and a govermental institution. I would also keep the CDU to make clear which party office the are visiting.
