German term or phrase: Zukunftslotse
In einer Anzeigenserie wird Ludwig Erhard als "Zukunftslotse" etabliert. I'm thinking along the lines of "helmsman/navigator of our future course/direction" but looking for further inspiration. Lotsen implies guiding/steering/taking in the right direction. Any ideas?

guiding light
Explanation:
maybe .....

I also toyed with "pilot of the future" although it makes me think of Dan Dare and that may not be the best way to go ....

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Stephen, that is a good option and snappy with it!

Asker: Stephen, I really like your "visionary" and may use it at another point in my text, but I am going to choose "guiding light" because it retains the "lotsen" element.

leader into the future / leader into a better future

Explanation:
Like Francis I wish for more context - you must have more than just this one word. Normally, Ludwig Ehrhard is called "der Vater der Marktwirtschaft" and he really gave the German economy the big push forward after the Second World War.

Asker: You are definitely putting me on the right track here. It's late here in Australia, I think I will sleep on it.
