Hier wird die Funktion einer Altholzaufbereitungsanlage beschrieben:

Das Grobgut mit den kleinen Fraktionen wird mit Gurtbändern in ein Wasserbad transportiert, in dem die Schlechtteile mittels Schwerkraft aussortiert werden. Beim **Ausfall** des Wasserbades wird das Grobgut mit den schwereren Fraktionen komplett in die Verbrennung gegeben.

Vielleicht denke ich zu kompliziert, aber ich kann mir hier unter dem Begriff "Ausfall" überhaupt nichts vorstellen.

Reference information:
The wood is not actually destined for combustion here, but the process is the same.

The waste wood is dumped into tanks containing water; the nonwood materials do not contain buoyant properties and will sink to the bottom of the tanks. This not only separates the two, but cleans existing dirt from the wood. After being removed from the tank, the wood is moved onto a conveyer belt to be inspected and separated into painted or treated and nontreated wood piles, since some company's permits do not allow them to process treated wood.
