German term or phrase: Apfelbäckchen
This is from an article in a women's magazine on how to use blusher, which for obvious reasons is not a subject I know much about.

I tried Google Images, and it appears to mean big spots of pink on your cheeks, like a clown. Is there an English word for this?

Forget pink and brown blush and rosy apple cheeks, too; think scattered touches of iridescence achieved via powder or cream applied to the face’s high points—cheekbones, temples, and bridge of the nose. Scott Barnes, the makeup artist who developed the lustrous body cream that gave Jennifer Lopez her signature incandescence, now has Body Bling in Platinum ($48 at Henri Bendel), a lighter moisturizer with a quieter, silvery sparkle.

rosy cheeks

Explanation:
Every woman would love to keep rosy cheeks and lips as much as possible. There are those who have been gifted with naturally rosy cheeks and lips but for those who are not, cosmetics is the only solution.

Well, to me it is okay to use my fingers in perfecting the application to my cheeks of this Avon Simply Pretty Lip and Cheek Tint but the big problem is most of the tint stick more on the fingers than on the cheeks so that it is the fingers that get most of the rosy effect than the cheeks.

agree  Annett Kottek (X): I like the apple, but I’m not sure about 'rosy' for the colloquial 'knackig'. I found a 'lush apple cheeks' on Google, admittedly only one hit (link posted below).

-> The rosy is not meant as a translation for 'knackig'. I'll leave that to the Asker, more a response to the over-done make-up. He'll need to add something else for that. But thanks, Annett.

neutral  Helen Shiner: Problem is that the more normal phrase does use 'rosy apple' - it has the homespun feel that Apfelbäckchen has.
