You're quite right that "Rennwagen" translates to "racing car", but isn't it also a translator's license to read between the lines?

What about "muscle car"?

I don't know how else you could translate "Rennwagen" other than race or racing car. I realize there may be a technical problem involved here as to whether it really is a 'Rennwagen' and you might make a note to the client about this, but we are doing translations and 'Rennwage' does translate to 'race car'.

Do not think it is a racing car either, but you might want to have some mentioning of a speedy/fast car as presumably this was a demonstration to show that battery-powered cars are not dull or behave like shopping carts, but are able to do kick ass!

Please note it is NOT "A" safety car, but "THE" safety car - presumably the same car which raced the Audi. And I'd advise you not to use Andrew's "racing" car (though I think the rest of his suggestion is fine), 'cos I don't think it was one...
