Strittig ist darüber hinaus die Frage, ob die ***Abstandautomatik*** nur die Motorkraft zurücknehmen oder aktiv in die Bremse eingreifen soll. Im ersten Fall könnte das Gerät nur geringe Geschwindigkeitsunterschiede ausgleichen und ließe sich mithin allenfalls als Luxuszubehör, nicht aber als sicherheitsrelevantes Bauteil anpreisen.

Beim Bremseneingriff hingegen könnte es, wie Norbert Höver, Elektronikentwickler bei Hella, meint, "kriminell werden": immer dann, wenn dem System "Fehlinterpretationen" unterlaufen.
