German term or phrase: Fund- und Befunderhaltung
Context:

I'm thinking along the lines of a simplification to:

In this grave we have very well preserved artefacts and (especially) bones.

excellent discovery in terms of preservation and state of the bones
Explanation:
Befunderhaltung (Befund/state, Erhaltung/preservation) sort of says the same thing twice. Of course, 'ein Fund' is a discovery, says nothing about artefacts (Grabbeigaben) as such, though chances are some may be present.

Asker: But in the context of an archaeological dig 'Funde' are 'finds', are they not?

Asker: ...and 'Befunde' normally 'findings'?

preservation of features and finds

Explanation:
A description of the features found during the excavations and the evolution of the Roman Villa (16-39).

the bones found in this grave are very well preserved

Explanation:
Since the sentence is "in Bezug auf die Knochen", it's not obvious to me that anything other than the state of the bones is being described (it's not "besonders in Bezug auf die Knochen" - it's just the Knochen by themselves). Poorly expressed in the German, I think - so I'd be with you, David, in trying to simplify the original.

Asker: There are other finds too, such as Grabbeigaben, for example.
