Hi, Veronika. Just because an English translation is provided on a German site does not necessarily disqualify it. I think in this case the English is pretty sound and the authors did think of a "adequate" way of translating the terms in question.

Hi Bernhard. I finally used the and north- and south-facing categories in my translation, but I am not a 100% happy with them because a site might also face the east or the west... "Sunny side" sounds a bit funny to me. The link supports Andrew's suggestion, but it's a German link, so it doesn't confirm anything.

However –and this is gist of the matter here– if "sonn(en)seitig" is just a synonym of "südseitig" or "in Südlage", and "schatt(en)seitig" a synonym of "nordseitig" or "in Nordlage" , the original also ignores the east-facing and west-facing farm – which means that my translation is accurate.

Hi Veronika. The link you posted would confirm north-facing farm, wouldn't it? Were you leaning towards this solution or are you unsure and did you post the link for that reason?
