German term or phrase: Helling
This is in a document about the production/manufacture of tools at an aircraft factory. One section/paragraph is entitled "Herstellung einer Helling:", but there is nothing in the document that provides and clue as to what a Helling is. The translations I can find (shipbuilding slip, building berth o. cradle, slipway, slip) applying to shipbuilding and seem somewhat irrelevant in this context, .

cradle
Explanation:
Would be my suggestion, based on a write-up I found of large airplane construction (in German; see web reference below) that shows Helling to be a sort of frame which holds airplane parts during the construction process, and also a reference in connection with model airplane construction using the term "cradle".

Asker: Oh! I thought that they were called jigs, but that makes sense too.

building berth

Explanation:
It is the same term as in ship building, it is a construction to hold parts of the plane during the building process.
I have often heard this in model airplane building, the link shows a nice picture of the concept.

Asker: This page on the same site seems to favour either 'cradle' or 'assembly stand': http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1116902
