German term or phrase: Thermostatisierung
The context here is temperature control of a new gravity field measurement satellite (GOCE):

----
Durch die Verwendung absolut formstabiler Baumaterialien und durch eine perfekte Thermostatisierung führt das Gravitationsgradiometer störungsfrei seine Messung durch.

http://www.iapg.bv.tum.de/7728--~goce~Goce~Mission~index.htm...
----

Google found about 800 hits for the horrible-sounding "thermostatization" compared to 3200 or so for the German term, so I don't think that's right.

Is this perhaps simply a "thermostatic control system", or is there a bit more to it than that?

Thanks for your thoughts.

temperature control / thermostatting
Explanation:
Yes, I do suspect they just refer to a "perfect(ly designed) temperature control (system)" (or, indeed, a "thermostatic/thermal control system") here.

On the other hand, "thermostatting" is also used, as in http://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/mathematics/research/applie... (under "Leverhulme Research Fellowship") and http://www.atmosp.physics.utoronto.ca/MOPITT/mdd_93/m93-72.h... ("Other Heating/Thermostatting Requirements").

Well, the Uni of Toronto source does seem to deal with satellite equipment/technology...

Right, then translate as "temperature control", as supported by peers :)

I went with "temperature control" in the end, but think that "thermostatting" would also be correct (even if it does sound awful!). Thanks for all the help.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks. Yes, "thermostatting" would appear to be the direct equivalent, but I don't know if I can bring myself to use it! I just have this image in my head of some bloke going round upgrading the valves on my radiators or something, which somehow doesn't seem appropriate for the world's most advance gravity sensor! Or is that just me.

Asker: True enough, it's just that it sounds awful to me in such a high-tech context. Perhaps I'm just old fashione and lexo-squeamish!

agree  jccantrell: Temp control would have been my suggestion and it does sound best in English.
