Le principali sono: la tubercolosi, la polmonite da Pneumocisti carini, la micosi, la candidosi orale o mughetto, la meningite, le infezioni virali provocate dagli Herpes virus (tra cui l'Herpes simplex), il sarcoma di Kaposi, la mononucleosi, il CMV, la Leishmaniosi, i linfomi.
Quindi occorre distinguere tra "affezioni" e "infezioni", non tutte le affezioni sono infezioni.
