So che il termine indica la parte superiore della foresta e così l'avevo tradotto fino ad ora, visto che non sembra esserci un corrispettivo più specifico in italiano. Il problema è che il testo continua con un riferimento diretto al termine:
"Le mot même de canopée est récent, lié à un changement radical de point de vue. Jadis on appelait «voûte forestière» le déploiement de la cimes des arbres tel qu’on pouvait l’envisager d’en bas. Il a fallu que l’observateur botaniste ait la possibilité de se porter au-dessus de cette cime des arbres pour changer son vocabulaire et découvrir dans la canopée, un monde biologique infiniment riche qu’il ne pouvait soupçonner depuis le sol."

Ci vorrebbe un termine che evidenziasse il diverso punto di vista (dall'alto e non più dal suolo). Suggerimenti?

si traduce cosi l'inglese canopy in genere in agricoltura quindi penso anche per quanto riguarda quel ramo specifico della ricerca botanica

Il problema principale per chi si accinge a una tale impresa è l'osservazione degli invertebrati che vivono sulla "canopy", la chioma della foresta pluviale, praticamente inaccessibile con i normali mezzi di investigazione, tanto da essere considerata una delle ultime frontiere della ricerca sul campo.

Grazie. Alla fine ho optato per canopy, sembra essere la forma più usata in italiano, ma ho dovuto dare anche una spiegazione del termine.
