Voor zover ik kon vaststellen, zij er vaak twee "ailes de retour" die haaks op het hoofdgebouw staan en vaak een binnenplein omsluiten of naar de tuin gericht zijn.

In jouw geval zou ik het gebouw moeten zien om te weten waarop die "aile de retour" juist slaat. Met "zijvleugel" kun je er echter niet veel naastzitten want een "zijvleugel" hoeft niet per se haaks op een ander gedeelte van het gebouw te slaan.
