Det är samma sak - otillräcklig, nedsatt eller bristande andning så att normal syrgasmättnad och normalt kolsyretryck inte kan upprätthållas i blodet (kan bero på obstruktion (hinder) i andningsvägarna eller störd funktion (skada) i andningscentrum.

Failure betyder nog oftare svikt/insufficiens än vad det gör stopp. Cressy anger respiratory arrest för andningsstillestånd. Men sviktar andningen länge så dör man ju.

Jag tolkade din mening som två medicinska namn för samma företeelse, som så ofta är fallet som t.ex i

När det gäller svikt kan du jämföra NE:s förklaring av hjärtsvikt som alltså inte är detsamma som hjärtstillestånd utan hjärtinsufficiens

hjärtsvikt, hjärtinkompensation, hjärtinsufficiens, sjukdomstillstånd som beror på att hjärtats förmåga att pumpa blod är nedsatt.\"

Men som du ser längre ner på failure så står det failure, resparatory = andningssvikt. Så är det skilda saker man talar om så har Sven helt rätt!
