Reference Reference information: The concept of tax equalisation is that the expatriate should be neither better nor worse off from a tax point of view by accepting an overseas assignment. He will continue to be subject to the same level of tax as if he had remained at home. The tax impact of the assignment is therefore neutralised for the expatriate. http://finance.indiamart.com/taxation/income_tax/tax_equalis... The principle behind a tax equalisation programme is that the employee should be 'no better or no worse off' as a result of taxes while on a foreign assignment. In other words, the employer guarantees that the employee's tax burden will be neither greater nor lesser if the employee had remained in the home country. If the tax burden is higher in the host country, the company reimburses the excess. However, if total tax costs are lower, the tax savings will pass to the company, not to the employee. http://www.asiaone.com/Business/Office/Learn/Story/A1Story20... |
