kolsyra Explanation: Maybe an explanation should be added, depending on the intended readership. There is long list of reactions that can go in both directions, Start with CO2 (as a gas), it can dissolve in water, or dissipate out. Solubility is a function of pressure (open a can of carbonated beverage for a test). Once in the water, you get the reaction CO2+H20 <-> H2CO3 Where H2CO3 is carbonic acid, Sw "kolsyra". But the average Swedish speaker (not chemists) makes no clear distinction between CO2 in water solution and carbonic acid. Additionally, the following reactions are possible H2CO3 <-> H+ + HCO3- (the postscript +- should be superscripts, the postscript numbers should be subscripts). HCO3-<-> H+ + CO3-- (ditto) It is plausible that the plural "acids" is a way of collectively referring to several of the above (although CO3-- is NOT an acid, and HCO3- can be either a base or an acid depending on the environment, although a base by itself). -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 25 mins (2009-03-13 15:17:15 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Kolsyran förångas inte direkt.
