Banger racing (in North America either street stock or enduro racing, and in Australia, "stock car racing") is a tarmac or dirt track racing type of motorsport event popularised in both North America and Europe and especially United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands in which drivers of old vehicles race against one another around a race track and the race is won in terms of the first car to the chequered flag. The race tracks are usually oval, around 440 yards (400 metres) but on occasion are constructed in a figure eight design. One notable exception is the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals, held at longer (1,600m and longer) ovals such as Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina, a 1.017 mile oval.

Možda bi bilo najbolje ostaviti pojam banger tako kako jeste. Zaljubljenici u ovakvu vrsta trka će odmah znati o čemu se radi. Ako im kažete nešto drugo, možda neće odmah razumeti o čemu je reč. Evo i primera koji pokazuje da to nije prevedeno:

U Velikoj Britaniji takmičenje British Stock Car racing takođe se naziva "Short Circuit Racing". Ono se odvija na stazi od škriljaca ili asfalta obično dugačkoj oko 1/4 milje (oko 400 metara). Ovo takmičenje organizuju i vode Oval Racing Council (ORC) i BriSCA. Oba tela se sastoje od pojedinačnih promotera takmičenja. U Velikoj Britaniji postoji oko 35 staza sa više od 7000 aktivnih vozača. Takmičenje je podeljeno u tri osnovne "divizije" sa posebnim pravilima o auto-kontaktu tokom trke. Ili. "surova trka starih automobila", mada mislim da je predugo za naslov.

Jedino pravilo je da nema direktnih čeonih sudara, sve ostalo je dozvoljeno. Jeste i da se odvija u blatu, odnosno na takvoj stazi, ali možda je predugo da stavite ceo opis a da bude naslov emisije.
