"There are two related enzymes that have the ability to hydrolyze asetylcholine. One is acetylcholinesterase, which is called "true" cholinesterase. It hydrolyzes acetylcholine, which is released at the nerve endings and mediates transmission of the neural impulse across the synapse. The other cholinesterase is acylcholine acylhydrolase (SChE).
